Cylinders and Transport Canada Compliance
Article written by Colin Harcourt, Aircom President
There are many different types of cylinders
used to transport dangerous goods. Recently, Transport Canada
Inspectors in Ontario have found unacceptable compressed gas cylinders
frequently being used for a variety of purposes.
All cylinder manufacturers who sell cylinders
for the transportation of dangerous goods in Canada must meet
Transport Canada (TC) safety standards. It is an offence under
the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (1992) to use cylinders
not in compliance with the prescribed cylinder standards and not
displaying all applicable prescribed safety marks.
How can you tell if your cylinders are in compliance?
Just look for a Transport Canada ''TC'' specification mark, indicating
the cylinder was manufactured, tested and inspected in accordance
with safety standards.
In an age where safety and liability issues
are becoming more important, compliance with Transport Canada
is crucial.
